How to perfect your lipstick | Pictorial

Sometimes just chucking on a lipstick isn't going to cut it, especially with some formulas that like to make their way over your face, or does that just happen to me? I've found that applying my lipstick this way, using different lip liners & doing it in different layers helps it to stay put & last a lot longer, too. This is not something that I do everyday but when I have time & I'm wearing a bolder lip colour I like to spend a bit more on the lips. 1. Line just outside of your natural lip line with a lip liner that is close to your natural colour if you prefer a fuller lip. Tip: If you're going for a nude lip, use a colour slightly darker than your lipstick. 2. Apply your lipstick of choice. It doesn't matter if you don't cover up the liner completely as we'll be going over that again. Make sure to really press your lips together to work the lipstick in. Tip: Use a lip brush with the first coat which helps the lipstic

MAC Samples// Swatches & Comparisons

A little while ago I came across a website that sells MAC lipstick, pigment, paintpot samples & more as well as their own brand that takes after the name of the website, Her Body Needs. There are so many lipsticks from MAC that I "need" but I wanted to make sure that I didn't have anything too similar already, but I wish I had replaced some samples with others instead.
L-R: Vegas Volt, Honeylove, Impassioned, Candy Yum Yum
For $3.79 you get .5 grams of product, which is what you can see. Looking at the amount of product I think you'd be able to get about 10 swatches out of it. MAC lipsticks are US$15 full sized which are 3g each so that's $5 a gram where the sample is $7.58 per gram, which means $22.74 is what you would be paying full price if you went off of the samples pricing. So really you aren't getting the best deal but as these retail for $36 in Australia it is best to try a sample just in case you end up not liking it!
L-R: Vegas Volt, Honeylove, Impassioned, Candy Yum Yum
I also bought a paintpot & a pigment sample.
The Bare Study paintpot is $3.29 for .5 grams and Blue Brown pigment is $2.49 for a 1/4 teaspoon. I want to buy Bare Study anyway and Blue Brown was a random choice because I have seen how pretty & dimensional it is. I think I will probably buy it after trying it out!
This is my first eyelook using Blue Brown & I have used this on it's own, along with a highlighter... you wouldn't believe all it took was to apply and blend without adding another colour!

Lip Swatches & Comparisons
Vegas Volt
Last year I had almost bought Vegas Volt instead of Morange. But I am glad I did not, because it is not what I had expected. It is meant to have an amplified finish so maybe I was expecting too much because of Morange, but I am glad I have tried it because I don't feel the need for it now.
Comparisons L-R: Vegas Volt, Maybelline Coral Crush, Sportsgirl Fruit Tingle, Nyx Soft Matte Lip Cream in Antwerp
Coral crush is pinkier, Fruit Tingle is slightly lighter & matte, Antwerp is also matte but a darker coral. Fruit Tingle is probably the closest in colour & that's fine with me!

Honeylove
I helped my friend to choose this as her first MAC lipstick last year, and it looks amazing on her olive toned skin, but not so much on me. Plus it is probably too drying. I wish I had tried MAC Please Me or Kinda Sexy instead.
L-R: Honeylove, Revlon Nude Attitude, Nyx Summer Love, Nyx Tea Rose.
I knew a lot of these swatches wouldn't match but I didn't really have anything else to try it up against. Nude Attitude is lighter and more peach toned, Summer Love is lighter & a satin finish but still very brown toned, Tea Rose is more mauve.

Impassioned
When I was going through my lipstick collection I thought I would have had a lot more closer colours, but this turns out to be more of a reddy pink which I don't really have anything like it. I've only seen swatches but I think Maybelline's Vivid Rose looks extremely similar to this. I have wanted this lipstick for the longest time so I'm not sure if I should just get it or try Vivid Rose instead?
 L-R: Impassioned, Ulta3 Harem Pink
Harem Pink is less red toned & lighter & also matte. Impassioned almost looks neon in some pictures.

Candy Yum Yum
I've had it in my head for a long time that Sleek's Amped was a very similar colour to the very popular CYY so I had to buy a sample just to see if it lived up to my expectations. Another Maybelline Lipstick from the Vivid's collection, Fuchsia Flash, is meant to be a dupe in colour (not finish) so I may just go for that instead. Has anybody compared these two together? I don't care for a matte finish too much.
L-R: Candy Yum Yum, Sleek Amped, Wet n Wild Dollhouse Pink, Milani Rose Hip.
Sleek Amped has the same finish but very slightly more blue toned, Dollhouse Pink is way more blue toned as expected & Rose Hip is a hotter pink (I knew it wouldn't be a match, doesn't hurt to try).

So the lipsticks I would be more likely to get are Impassioned (thanks to a long time lemming) & Candy Yum Yum... but if I find out the supposed dupes are close I might just go with them. I only intend to buy these while I'm away & the other main ones I want are Ruby Woo, Please Me or Kinda Sexy, Angel & that's all I can think of at the moment!

Please let me know your favourite MAC lipsticks that you think I should have a look at!
xx
